Van de Veerdonk’s is an internist infectious disease specialist working at the Radboudumc in Nijmegen the Netherlands. He takes care of patients with infectious diseases, specifically fungal infections, and patients with primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs). His research has focused on chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, hyper-IgE Syndrome, and chronic granulomatous disease. These PIDs are associated with fungal infections, and studying the antifungal host defense in these diseases has the potential to elucidate new insights in antifungal host responses. Another focus is IL-1 biology, with emphasis on the role of the IL-1 family members IL-36, IL-37 and IL-38 in infectious diseases and auto-inflammatory disorders.
